Continuing its winning streak, BBK DAV College bagged the GNDU Overall General Sports Championship Trophy (2018-19) consecutively for the eighth time and also won Runners-up Shaheed-E-Azam Bhagat Singh Overall General (Men & Women Combined) Sports Championship Trophy 2017-18. The college sportswomen were awarded Rs. 17,00,000 (Rupees Seventeen Lac only) for their commendable achievements in various sports.
52 outstanding players of the College received a huge amount worth Rs. 17,00,000 (Rupees Seventeen Lac only) as prize money by Honourable Sh. Radhey Shyam Julaniya, IAS, Secretary Sports, MYAS, Government of India at Dashmesh Auditorium, GNDU Campus on 17th August 2019 organized by the Department of Sports, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. Two International Cyclists of the college, Ms. Elangbam Choaba Devi and Sushikala Durgaprasad Agashe and a Kayaking player Ms. Komal Bisht got maximum cash prize of Rs.2,90,000, Rs.85,000, Rs.1,20,000 respectively among women players.
Besides, the college Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia was honoured for being the Principal of the biggest contributing college towards MAKA trophy and Mrs. Sweety Bala, Head, Department of Physical Education was honoured with a memento and cash award of Rs. 8,000.
Guru Nanak Dev University organized 43 Inter College Competitions and our college players participated in 40 games in which they bagged 36 positions out of which Sixteen Championships i.e. Yoga, Tug of War, Chess, Boxing, Handball, Lawn Tennis, Basketball, Track Cycling, Weight Lifting, Power Lifting, Gymnastic Artistic, Gatka, Table-Tennis, Kayaking, Wushu and Pencak Silat Twelve teams got 1st Runners up positions in Archery Wooden, Rifle Shooting, Pistol Shooting, Wrestling, Judo, Football, Rowing, Canoeing, Baseball, Karate, Road Cycling and Softball and Eight teams got 2nd Runners up positions i.e Squash Racket, Archery Recurve, Archery Compound, Kabbadi (N/S), Gymnastics Rhythmic, Cricket, Fencing and Rugby.
Recognizing the talent of sportswomen of the institution, the college welcomed its International and National Players with garlands, bouquets and also distributed sweets to the staff and students. Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia congratulated the students, teachers, supporting staff and players for achieving splendid success and for winning the prestigious trophies. She further added that BBK DAV has always promoted sports and offers state of the art infrastructure to its players.
