BBK DAV Collegiate Senior Secondary School for Girls, Amritsar, organised an insightful and interactive workshop on “Peer Pressure and Mental Health” for the students of +1 and +2 classes. The workshop aimed at creating awareness among students regarding the impact of peer pressure on mental well-being and equipping them with healthy coping mechanisms.
The session was conducted by Dr. Simardeep Gill, Founder, De-Stress Counselling Centre, along with psychologists Ms. Manmeet and Ms. Aarti. The resource persons explained the concept of peer pressure and elaborated on its various forms, including direct, indirect, and self-imposed pressure. They discussed the influence of friends, social groups, and social media on students’ behaviour, emotions, and decision-making abilities. The speakers further emphasised the importance of making independent and responsible choices and highlighted both the positive and negative effects of peer pressure. Additionally, the workshop focused on techniques to overcome anxiety, build self-confidence, and develop the courage to say ‘No’ in challenging situations. Grounding exercises and stress-management strategies were demonstrated to help students maintain emotional balance and mental wellness.
In her address, Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia stated that it is paramountly important for students to understand the significance of mental health and emotional resilience in today’s stressful world. She also highlighted that such workshops empower students to make wise decisions, handle peer pressure positively, and develop confidence in their individuality.
The students participated enthusiastically and found the session highly informative and beneficial. The workshop proved to be a meaningful initiative in promoting mental health awareness and fostering positive peer interaction among young learners.
