The college holds 54th Annual Awards Day

BBK DAV College for Women organised 54th Annual Awards Day, dedicated to the 200th Birth Anniversary of Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati Ji. On this occasion, young achievers in the field of academics, co-curricular and sports activities were awarded. Dr. Ramesh Arya, Vice President, DAVCMC, New Delhi, was the Chief Guest while Dr. Amandeep Singh, Associate Prof. & Head, Dept of Physical Education  and Incharge Youth Welfare Dept, GNDU, along with Dr. Kanwar Mandeep Singh,  Incharge Sports, Dept of Physical Education, GNDU, Amritsar were the Guests of Honour for the occasion. The function began with the singing of DAV song and chanting of Ved Mantras along with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp of knowledge. Welcoming the guests, Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia said that it was proud moment for the institution to honour the students who have always performed well and maintained merit positions in GNDU examinations and various co-curricular and sports activities, thus making BBK DAV College for Women one of the top-ranking women institutions of North India. Addressing the students, she said that if they want to succeed in life, they should shun negative approach and have a clear objective mind before forming an opinion on anything. She also presented the Annual Report highlighting college achievements in various arenas.

Dr. Ramesh Arya blessed the students and prayed for their good health, prosperity and success. He congratulated them on their achievements in academic, co-curricular and sports activities. He motivated the students to follow the path of hard work and perseverance.

Nearly 900 students were honoured on this day. Ms. Manmeet Kaur of BA Sem VI was awarded with Late Smt. Saraswati Devi Award for Excellence in Academics as well as Co-Curricular Activities and Ms. Mansha Khanna was given Late Sh. A.S. Soni Award for All-rounder Best Student. The star players who made a mark in international games were awarded with cash prizes.

Aagashe Shushikala Durgaprasad (Track Cycling), an Asian Bronze Medalist and a participant of Commonwealth Games was awarded with a cash prize of Rs. 25,000/-. Taniksha Khatri (Fencing), a participant of World Cup, Asian Championship; Priya (Wrestling), Winner of Gold Medal in Asian Championship and World Wrestling Championship and also an Asian and World Silver Medalist; Sheetal Dalal (Fencing), a participant of World Cup and Danole Pooja Babban (Track Cycling), an Asian Silver and Bronze Medalist and a participant of World Championship, were awarded with cash prizes of Rs. 15,000/- each by the college. The college also honoured alumna Priyanshu Kachhap for her spectacular performance in the international arena.

Dr. Amandeep Singh felicitated the Principal, staff and students of the college for organizing this event. While inspiring  the students to excel in their chosen field, he emphasized that defeat should not be a stumbling block, rather it should pave the way for success in future.

Dr. Kanwar Mandeep Singh appreciated the contribution of BBK DAV College in the winning of MAKA Trophy by GNDU several times. He also said that nothing is impossible, and one can achieve anything in life by one’s strong will power.

News Bulletin, a college publication, was released during the event. Students of the Department of Music and Theatre enthralled the audience with their mesmerizing performance on the life of Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati Ji. Sh. Sudarshan Kapoor, Chairman, LMC presented the vote of thanks. Sh. Rakesh Mehra from Arya Samaj, Principal Dr. Amardeep Gupta and Principal Dr. Pallavi Sethi graced the occasion with their presence. The function concluded with the singing of National Anthem.
