NSS Unit of the College organized Environmental Conservation Drive in Adopted Village

The NSS unit of the BBK DAV College for Women organized a 3-day cleanliness and Environmental Sustainable Development Camp at one of its adopted villages Malawali under the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, a flagship program of MHRD.

DBT sponsored workshop on vermicomposting and manure making was organized by Dr. Adarsh Pal Vig, Head department of Botanical and Environmental Sciences, Guru Nanak Dev University. Dr. Adarsh Pal told about the harmful impact of technology on the environment and how we should practice the traditional methods of farming.

He also talked about the need of organic farming and how the fertilizers and pesticides are harmful for the Environment and the earthworms act as the environmental engineers and best friends to farmers. A small scale manure making plant was also installed at the secondary school of Malawali.

A series of lectures on water conservation, self-hygiene, and menstrual hygiene are given to the inmates of village and the students of primary and secondary school of Malawali by Ms. Payal, Assistant Professor in Department of Botany.

Mr. Jagdeep Singh, Assistant Professor of Fine Arts wrote slogans on cleanliness and hygiene on the walls of the elementary school.

Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia congratulated the members of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan Team and NSS volunteers for taking such initiatives and said that such activities help in overall development of the rural areas and also help in making students realize the importance of the practices to be followed to save our environment leading to sustainable development.

On this occasion Ms. Priya Sharma, NSS Program Officer, Mr. Harminder Singh, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Economics, Mr. Palwinder  Singh, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Computer Science, Ms. Priyanka Chugh , Ms. Neha Sehgal, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Commerce, Ms. Amandeep, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Chemistry were present.
