Department of Botany organized a DBT-sponsored Guest Lecture on “Phytoremediation-Nature’s Green Clean Technology”

A DBT-Sponsored Guest Lecture on “Phytoremediation-Nature’s Green Clean Technology” was organized by the Department of Botany, BBK DAV College for Women, Amritsar. The Guest Speaker was Dr. Renu Bhardwaj, Dean, Life Sciences and Professor, Department of Botanical and Environmental Sciences, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar with specialization in Plant Stress Physiology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Plant Metabolomics, Chemical Ecology and Ecophysiology, Phytoremediation and Plant Growth Regulation. Prof. Bhardwaj highlighted the ill-effects of unsustainable development which leads to pollution and the importance of plants to overcome the effect of pollution by absorbing different pollutants. She described various plants like Lotus, Potamogeton, Eichhornia, Lemna which act as natural hyperaccumulators for different pollutants. She encouraged the students to plant more and more trees to maintain a sustainable environment for the present as well as for future generations. The guest lecture was followed by an interactive session in which students and faculty members got their doubts cleared. The lecture ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Rashmi Kalia, Head, Department of Botany. Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia congratulated the department for organizing the lecture and also thanked the resource person.
