Department of Botany, BBK DAV College for Women, Amritsar organised a DBT-sponsored guest lecture on “Ozone Depletion”. Guest speaker Prof. Saroj Arora, Department of Botanical and Environmental Sciences, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, who specializes in Natural Plant products, Environmental Toxicology. Prof. Saroj Arora discussed different causes of ozone depletion, its consequences and the measure to prevent it. She described about different layers of Ozone like Troposphere, Stratosphere, Mesosphere etc ., and their significance for living beings. She apprised the students about the different types of Ozone present in atmosphere and told, if present in stratosphere is considered to the good ozone while in mesosphere is considered to be bad ozone (pollutant). The guest lecture was followed by an interactive session in which students and faculty members had a question-answer session with the guest. The lecture ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Rashmi Kalia, Head, Department of Botany.
