As a step towards preservation and promotion of the rich Vedic legacy bequeathed by Maharishi Swami Dayanand Saraswati and also as a tribute to Swami Shradhanand Ji on his martyrdom day, BBK DAV College for Women organised a special Vedic Havan in the premises of the historic Arya Samaj Lohgarh. On this auspicious occasion, Sh. Sudarshan Kapoor, Chairman, Local Advisory Committee, acted as the ‘Yajman’. Prof. Dr. Harmahinder Singh Bedi a renowned Vedic scholar, Chancellor, Central University, Dharamshala was the main speaker and Sh. J.P. Shoor, President Arya Pradeshik Pratinidhi Up-Sabha (Punjab) & Director (Schools) were also present on this occasion.
The College Principal, Dr. Pushpinder Walia, welcomed the guests with beautiful saplings, symbolic of college’s endeavour to preserve the environment. In her welcome address, she thanked God for all his blessings & accorded a warm welcome to the august gathering. She added that Arya Samaj is not a religious organisation, caste or sect but an attempt to create an ideal world order. It is an ideology that has been working for the betterment of the society through its time tested values. Arya Samaj aims at abolishing social evils rampant in India and removing false practices and superstitions. With the blessings of Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati, Mahatma Hans Raj Ji & Mahatma Anand Swami Ji & the untiring efforts of Arya Ratan Dr. Punam Suri, Padam Shri Awardee, under where guidance Arya Samaj and DAV educational institutions are constantly instilling love for rich Indian culture into young generations. The Principal also thanked her faculty & the present gathering for organising & participating in the Havan.
The Chief Speaker, Dr. Harmahinder Singh acquainted the students with the lofty ideals of Arya Samaj and the huge contribution of Maharishi Dayanand & Mahatma Hans Raj towards national resurgence. He focused on the values advocated and propounced by Arya Samaj & motivated the students to internalize these values.
Sh. J.P. Shoor congratulated Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia on the successful organization of the holy Havan. He highlighted the great role played by Swami Dayanand Saraswati in giving highly logical & scientific interpretations of the glorious Vedic culture of India, leading to re-awakening of the country.
Sh. Sudarshan Kapoor, Chairperson proposed the vote of thanks, while Music Department of the college presented soul-stirring bhajans. Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia honoured Sh. Sudarshan Kapoor, Chief Guest, Sh. J.P. Shoor & members of different Arya Samajes with souvenirs.
