BBK DAV College for Women, Amritsar, holds its 53rd Convocation

BBK DAV College for Women held its 53rd Convocation to award degrees to the 2022-23 batch of graduates and postgraduates. Prof. (Dr.) Dhananjay Singh, Member Secretary, Indian Council of Social Science Research, New Delhi, graced the occasion as Chief Guest, while Prof. (Dr.) Harmohinder Singh Bedi, Padma Shree Awardee and Chancellor, Central University of Himachal Pradesh, presided over the function and delivered the convocation address. Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia and Sh. Sudarshan Kapoor, Chairman, Local Committee, welcomed the honourable guests with saplings. The function started with lighting of the lamp, chanting of Vedic Mantras and DAV Gaan.

Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia presented the annual report of the college, highlighting the honours and achievements of BBK in Academics, Sports and Co-curricular activities at state, national and international level. While felicitating the degree holders, Dr. Walia advised them to nurture empathy, emphasizing its role in enhancing team performance. She also highlighted the pivotal role of education in social mobility, specially for women.

In the convocation address, Prof. (Dr.) Harmohinder Singh Bedi, acknowledged the tremendous contribution of BBK DAV towards women education. He said that Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati, the founder of Arya Samaj, strongly advocated the cause of holistic education for empowering women socially and economically.

While congratulating the degree holders, Prof. (Dr.) Dhananjay Singh underscored the significance of integrating women into the nation’s workforce. He emphasized that development of the nation depends on ensuring gender equality, asserting that such inclusivity would strengthen India’s pursuit of becoming a developed nation.

More than 800 graduates & postgraduates from various disciplines of Arts, Commerce, Science, Journalism, Economics, Computers Science, Multimedia and Fashion Design were awarded degrees on this occasion. The Department of Youth Welfare enthralled the audience with a spell-binding performance of Punjabi folk dance ‘Giddha’.

Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia and Sh. Sudarshan Kapoor honoured the guests with souvenirs. Sh. Sudarshan Kapoor proposed the vote of thanks while Dr. Anita Narendra, Head, Department of Hindi, conducted the stage. Members from Arya Samaj, namely Sh. Rakesh Mehra, Sh. Sandeep Ahuja, Sh. Jawahar Lal, Sh. Atul Mehra, Col. Ved Mittar and Sh. Inderjit Thukral were also present on the occasion.  The function concluded with the singing of the National Anthem.
