BBK DAV College for Women, Amritsar holds its 51st Convocation

BBK DAV College for Women held its 51st Convocation to award degrees to the 2020-21 batch of graduates & post graduates. Dr. Harmohinder Singh Bedi, Padma Shree Awardee and Chancellor, Central University of Himachal Pradesh, graced the occasion as Chief Guest, while Dr. Ashwani Bhalla, Deputy Director, Higher Education and Languages, Government of Punjab, was the Guest of Honour for the occasion. Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia and Sh. Sudarshan Kapoor, Chairman, LMC, welcomed the honourable guests with saplings, symbolic of our enduring bond with Mother Nature. The function started with lighting of the lamp, chanting of Ved Mantras and DAV Gaan.

Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia presented the annual report of the college, highlighting the honours and achievements of BBK in Academics, Sports and Co-curricular events at state, national and international level. She congratulated the degree holders and encouraged them to be the torch-bearer of the lofty Vedic values, academic excellence and work ethics in all walks of life. While addressing the students, Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia said that life is a journey which includes various chapters and each chapter teaches us a lesson. While passing through this beautiful expedition called life, they must give their best to every work they do. She wished the students to attain great heights and always keep striving for learning.

In his convocation address, the Chief Guest Dr. Harmohinder Singh Bedi, acknowledged the tremendous contribution of BBK DAV in women education. He said that Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati, who founded Arya Samaj, strongly advocated education for girls.

The Guest of Honour, Prof. Dr. Ashwani Kumar Bhalla congratulated the degree holders and wished them a bright future. He urged them to be a source of pride as well as joy to their parents, the alma-mater and nation. He exhorted the students to equip themselves with skill-based education to become job providers rather than job seekers.

Nearly 1100 graduates & post-graduates from varied disciplines of Arts, Commerce, Science, Journalism, Economics, Computers Science, Multimedia and Fashion Design were awarded degrees on this occasion.

The Department of Youth Welfare enthralled the audience with spell-binding musical performance. A special feature on the occasion was a dramatic presentation “Is Jagah Ek Gaon Tha”, presented by the theatre team of the college and dedicated to the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav; it highlighted the painful trauma of partition and the sacrifices of the people who had to go through this event in history.

Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia and Sh. Sudarshan Kapoor honoured the guests with souvenirs. The latest issue of the college magazine Shachi was also released on the occasion. Sh. Sudarshan Kapoor proposed the vote of thanks while Dr. Anita Narendra, Head, Department of Hindi, conducted the stage. Col. Ved Mitter, Advocate Sh. Vipin Bhasin, Captain Sanjeev Sharma and Dr. Pallavi Sethi, Principal, DAV Public School, graced the occasion with their presence.  The function concluded with the singing of the National Anthem.
