BBK DAV College for Women organized a week-long Ved Prachar Saptah in which Padma Shri Dr. Harmohinder Singh Bedi, Chancellor, Central University of Himachal Pradesh, graced the occasion as a resource person. Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia warmly welcomed the guest. Addressing the students, she introduced Prof. (Dr.) H.S Bedi as an erudite personality and a researcher in true spirit. Speaking about the contribution of Arya Samaj, she said that the spread of Arya Samaj is far and wide as it is not confined to any particular religion. She encouraged the students to imbibe the values of Arya Samaj and make them an integral part of their lives. She further said that they should practice the values of truth, loyalty, honesty and integrity. She emphasized on the ten principles of Arya Samaj and motivated the students to make them a part of their character. Highlighting the importance of Vedas, she said that Vedas are a source of true knowledge; they guide us to live a life which is in consonance with nature. She congratulated Arya Yuvti Sabha for organising this guest lecture.
Padma Shri Dr. H.S Bedi in his address, said that the history of freedom struggle cannot be written without the contribution of Arya Samaj. He said that one cannot understand Swadeshi Movement without understanding Arya Samaj. Talking about the contribution of the great visionary, Swami Dayanand Saraswati, he told the students that he was a great reformer who worked for the upliftment of women and downtrodden. He threw light on the history of Gurukul Kangri which was started by Swami Shradhanand, and also elaborated that the great freedom fighter, Bhagat Singh was follower of Arya Samaj and his grandfather had imbibed the values of Arya Samaj from Swami Dayanand Saraswati. Adding to this, he said that Bhagat Singh learnt the first lessons of patriotism from Arya Samaj. Lala Lajpat Rai was also associated with Arya Samaj. So much was the influence of Arya Samaj that General Dyer had stated that it can shatter the very roots of British empire. Prof.(Dr.) H.S. Bedi concluded his speech by lauding the efforts of Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia for organising ‘Ved Prachar Saptah’. He encouraged the students to be good citizens and good human beings by inculcating Vedic values in their lives. Dr. Anita Narendera conducted the stage.
Various events and activities like Poetry Recitation Competition, Poster-making, Workshop on Havan Yajya and competition of Ved Mantra Ucharan were also held during Ved Prachar Saptah.
