BBK DAV College for Women, Amritsar observed World Mental Health Day, in which Dr. Davinder Singh Johal, former Head Department of Psychology, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, was the resource person.
While speaking on the occasion, Dr. Johal emphasized the growing need of mental health awareness and timely intervention. He further discussed how social and economic factors as well as lifestyle changes have contributed to a surge in cases of anxiety and depression. He concluded his speech by underscoring the persistent barriers to mental health care, such as, social stigma, inadequate access to resources, and a lack of knowledge.
In her address, Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia highlighted the importance of mental health awareness as it cannot be undermined in order to lead a prosperous and healthy life. She also encouraged the students to prioritise their mental wellness above everything else in life.
On this occasion, Dr. Simardeep, Head, Department of Psychology, along with other faculty members and students of the college were also present.
