The PG Department of Computer Science & Applications of BBK DAV College for Women, Amritsar, under the aegis of the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), organized a Workshop on Git & GitHub – Tools for Innovators and Entrepreneurs on November 1, 2025. The workshop aimed to equip students with knowledge of version control systems and collaborative software development tools that are essential for modern programmers and developers.
The session commenced with a warm welcome address by Ms. Rajni Mehra, Head of the Department, followed by an introduction to the theme of the workshop. The resource person for the event was Mr. Umesh Kalia, CEO of Real Infotech and Product Manager at Phoenix Technologies.
Mr. Kalia elaborated on the practical applications of Git and GitHub, demonstrating how these tools streamline coding, track file changes, and coordinate work among developers for efficient and well-organized project management. The session also included a hands-on demonstration, allowing participants to gain practical experience with version control operations.
Students from BCA Semester I and Semester V actively participated in the workshop. The interactive session not only enhanced their understanding of Git and GitHub but also contributed to the development of their entrepreneurial, problem-solving, and project management skills.
Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia appreciated the efforts of the Department and highlighted the importance of such initiatives in preparing students for the evolving IT industry. She emphasized that learning emerging technologies like Git and GitHub fosters innovation, collaboration, and professional growth among students, aligning with the college’s vision of academic excellence and skill development.
All faculty members of the Department of Computer Science were also present during the event. The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Manoj Puri, who expressed gratitude to the resource person and participants for making the workshop a success.
