BBK DAV College for Women, Amritsar, observed International Yoga Day on 21st June, 2024, underlining the theme “Yoga for Self and Society “, under the able guidance of Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia in which the Department of Physical Education along with the NCC and NSS Units of the college participated with great fervour.
The event started with the instructive session of Mr. Rajesh Bhatia, Mrs. Shashi Kakkar, and Mrs. Neha Kakkar, members of Bhartiya Yog Sansthan. Addressing the participants, Mr. Rajesh Bhatia enumerated the various benefits of yoga and how its practice brings joy, health and peace from within and deepens our sense of connection with other life forms. Mrs. Neha Kakkar highlighted the significance of yoga asanas as their regular practice enhances cardiovascular health, improves posture and balance and increases overall body awareness. Mrs. Shashi Kakkar viewed yoga as a holistic stress management technique that enhances overall well-being and quality of life.
In her address, Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia said that the concept of yoga had its genesis in the ancient Indian scriptures. She further added that yoga is an art and science of healthy living as it essentially focuses on bringing harmony between body and mind.
On this occasion, NSS volunteers also participated in a poster- making competition to celebrate the theme of the day. Divya jhingan and Smile Mahajan of B.Com Semester-6 stood first and second respectively in the competition. Ms. Kiran Gupta, Head, Department of Computer Science, NSS Programme Officers Ms.Surbhi Sethi and Dr. Nidhi Aggarwal, Dr. Sahil Gupta, Dr. Palwinder Singh, Ms. Amandeep Kaur, and Ms. Akshika Aneja also participated in the event.
