BBK DAV College for Women celebrated National Sports Day with utmost fervor and zeal. Various indigenous games and fun activities like Kho-Kho, Tug of War, Chess, Tennis and Cricket were organised under Fit India Campaign of Government of India held from 26th to 31st August 2024. The college sports persons and NCC cadets extended a warm welcome to the guests under the shadow of hockey sticks and Indian National Flags. Dr. Kanwar Mandeep Singh Dhillon, Director, Sports, Guru Nanak Dev University, was the Chief Guest for the event. A fit India pledge was taken to promote healthy and active lifestyle amongst youngsters.
While speaking on the occasion, Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia said that sports provide us with a microcosm of life’s broader challenges and rewards, offering numerous lessons like teamwork, discipline, leadership, respect, fair play etc.
Dr. Kanwar Mandeep Singh said that engaging in sports often involves overcoming setbacks, losses and injuries, thus helping athletes build resilience by learning to bounce back from adversities and maintain a positive attitude.
A cake cutting ceremony was also held to commemorate the 119th birth anniversary of India’s Hockey legend, Major Dhyan Chand. The event culminated in the presentation of awards and trophies to the players. Madan Lal Dhingra team, winner of Tug of War competition, was awarded with Major Dhyan Chand Trophy.
Advocate Sudarshan Kapoor, Chairperson, Local Committee, presented the vote of thanks. Dr. Sweety Bala, Head, Department of Physical Education, Dr. Amandeep Kaur, Ms. Savita and Ms. Gargi, Department of Physical Education, were also present on the occasion.
