A lecture on the topic “Cervical Cancer and Breast Cancer” was organized at BBK DAV College for Women, Amritsar on 21st February, 2024. Dr. Ruchika, M.S., Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Fortis Hospital, Amritsar, was the Chief Guest and the resource speaker. The program commenced with the presenting of saplings to the honorable guest.
In her address, Dr. Ruchika emphasized the alarming prevalence of both cervical cancer and breast cancer within the demographic of Indian women, shedding light on the drastic impact these diseases have on the health and well-being of the community. While prevention and treatment options for cervical cancer exist, lack of awareness often leads to delayed treatment. She highlighted the importance of HPV vaccination and modern screening techniques for prevention, recommending them for girls in the age range of 9 to 26 years. Regarding breast cancer, Dr. Ruchika stressed the significance of early symptom recognition and regular self-examinations, urging women to promptly seek medical attention for any abnormalities such as lumps, swelling, skin discoloration, or changes in the appearance of the breasts. Mammography was underscored as an effective diagnostic tool for breast cancer. Dr. Ruchika concluded by advocating for balanced nutrition, exercise, yoga, and meditation to reduce the risk of cancer. Following the lecture, Dr. Ruchika addressed students’ queries, providing them with comprehensive and satisfactory answers.
Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia commended Dr. Anita Narendra, Dean, Community Initiatives Development, and NSS Program Officers, Mrs. Surbhi Sethi and Dr. Nidhi Aggarwal, and Ms. Akshika for their meaningful efforts in organizing a lecture on such a crucial topic concerning female students. She also inspired and encouraged them to continue organizing similar lectures in the future as well.
