BBK DAV College for Women organized an awareness programme on “NRI Marriage: Do’s and Don’ts- A Way Forward” in collaboration with National Commission for Women, Panjab University, Chandigarh, Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee, Punjab State Legal Service Authority, Panchayat and Punjab Police. Sh. Sandeep Singh, DSP, NRI Affairs was the chief guest for the event.
Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia emphasized the need to educate girls and their families about the legal aspects of NRI weddings. She added that this evil can be abolished from the society by spreading awareness among the masses and by conducting pre-matrimonial investigations through social media and other platforms.
In his address, Sh. Sandeep Singh informed the students about the procedure of getting an FIR registered in the nearest police station for any kind of NRI offence. Prof. Dr. Vandana Arora, Department of Laws, Panjab University, Advocate Kirpal Kaur and Sh. Jagmohan Singh, Lok Kalyan Samiti, also addressed the students and talked about the labyrinth of issues surrounding NRI marriages. Sh. Sudarshan Kapoor, Chairman, LMC presented a vote of thanks.
Prof. Shivani Arora, Prof. Ajayta Sandhu and Prof. Babita Pathania from Department of Laws, Panjab University, Chandigarah, Advocate Navdeep Kaur, Advocate Sandeep Kaur along with students, their parents and faculty of the college attended the programme.
