PG Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of BBK DAV College for Women celebrated Women’s day on the theme of `Celebrating Traditional Games’. During the day-long celebrations, various folk games of Punjab like Kho-Kho, Koklashi Pakki, Pithu Garam, Gitte, Brante, Rassa Kashi, Rumal Jhappata, Rassi Tapna, Stapu and Oonch Neech were played. The games were played with the objective of re-introducing old games of Punjab to the young girls of the college.
Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia congratulated the PG Department of Journalism and Mass Communication for organizing the event. She said that traditional games resonate with the innocence of childhood. Games can help in developing and inculcating character, discipline, and personalities. Traditional games are better than modern games as they help the youth develop their abilities of team work, sportsmanship and commitment.
Dr. Priyanka Bassi, Head, PG Department of Journalism and Mass Communication said that students now-a-days spend their free time playing games on mobile phones which lead to decreased physical activity, impacting physical health and well-being. She further said that a healthy lifestyle should be followed by playing these traditional games.
Dr. Anterpreet Kaur, Assistant Professor, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Mrs. Mehak Arora, Ms. Puneet Kaur, Ms. Samridhi Mehra, Ms. Minal Changotra and Ms. Vriti Madaan were also present during the event.
