BBK DAV College for Women in collaboration with Department of Women and Child Development, Punjab organized ‘Female Tourist Guide Programme’ for 300 girls under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme. The programme was inaugurated by the District Administration, Amritsar and the Chief Guest, Mr. Shiv Dular Singh Dhillon, Deputy Commissioner, Amritsar held a vibrant interactive session with the students. The Deputy Commissioner, in his address, highlighted the important role that a tourist guide plays, and said that a good tourist guide adds value to a town; she makes people experience a place in a different light. He even emphasized on the skills requisite of a tour guide, with story telling being the most sought after quality. He shared his personal experiences with the students as a globetrotter. To motivate the students to know about the history of Amritsar, he urged them to explore and undertake a thorough research of the holy city.
Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia in her address, acknowledged the zeal of the Deputy Commissioner in the empowerment of women. She emphasized the relevance of this training programme in this scenario since Amritsar has acquired the status of being an international tourist destination.
Sh. Sudarshan Kapoor, Chairman LMC presented a vote of thanks and encouraged the students for active participation. Mrs. Harpreet Bhullar, Community Development Officer, Punjab Heritage Tourism Promotion Board also graced the event. The programme was widely attended by the faculty and the students of the college.
