BBK DAV College for Women organised an awareness rally in 20 nearby villages of Amritsar to create awareness among the farmers about the ill-effects of stubble burning. The Rally was taken out by the NSS unit of the college.
Nearly 100 volunteers of NSS talked with the farmers about the harmful effects of burning the crop residue and its impact on the soil fertility leading to depletion of nitrogen, phosphorus, sulphur and potassium from the top soil making the land unfertile and unviable for agriculture in the long run.
NSS programme officer Ms. Surbhi Sethi also talked about how the burning of crop residue is leading to pollution and how it is effecting the nearby areas. Ms. Priya Sharma NSS programme officer told the farmers about the toxic chemicals which are released during the burning which leads to many respiratory diseases.
On this occasion, Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia also encouraged the volunteers to carry on such activities to create awareness among the masses about the ill-effects of stubble burning.
