BBK DAV College for Women organised 49th Annual Awards Day to honour the young achievers in the field of academics, cultural and extracurricular activities. Shri O.P. Soni, Honorable Minister of Education, Environment and Freedom Fighters was the Chief Guest for the occasion.
The function began with the chanting of Ved Mantra Gayan and lighting the ceremonial lamp of knowledge. Welcoming the guests, Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia said the it was a proud moment for the college to honour the students who have always performed and maintained merit positions in GNDU examinations and various extra-curricular activities, thus, making BBK DAV College for Women one of the top ranking women institutions of North India. She further said that success is sweet but sweeter still are the values like honesty, kindness and co-operation.
Sh. O.P. Soni in his address congratulated the Principal, staff and students for organising this function. He said that quality education is the need of the hour so educational institutions should focus on quality education. Appreciating the efforts and hard work of teachers he said that teachers play a very crucial role in the lives of their students in moulding and shaping their future. College Magazine ‘Shachi’ was released by the Chief Guest during the function. In a magnanimous gesture, the Hon’ble Minister Sh. O.P. Soni announced a grant of Rs. 11 lakhs for the development of the college.
Nearly 750 students were awarded with the prizes on this day. Ms. Ritu Sharma of M.Com Sem-IV was awarded with Late Smt. Saraswati Devi Award for excellence in academics as well as co-curricular activities. Students from the department of Music enthralled the audience with their mesmerizing performance of sufi song.
Sh. Sudarshan Kapoor, Chairman, Local Managing Committee, presented the vote of thanks and motivated the students to work hard and maintain their positions in future also. Mrs. Balbir Kaur Bedi, Mr. Rakesh Sharma, Mr. Vipin Bhasin, Sh. Charanjeet, Sh. Mohinderjeet Singh, Sh. Dinesh Kumar, Sh. Sandeep Ahuja, Captain Sanjeev Sharma, Principal Govt. Polytechnic College, Amritsar, Principal Dr. Neera Sharma and Principal Simmi Luthra were also present on the occasion. The function concluded with the singing of National Anthem.
