BBK DAV COLLEGE FOR WOMEN ORGANISES WORKSHOP ON SINGER SEWING MACHINES

The PG Department of Home Science & Fashion Design, BBK DAV College for Women, organised a workshop on “Singer Sewing Machines” to provide students with practical knowledge and live demonstrations of modern sewing and embroidery machines. The workshop aimed to enhance students’ technical skills and familiarise them with advanced stitching techniques and efficient machine handling.

The resource persons for the workshop were Mr. Sukhmeet Singh, Area Sales Manager, Singer Sewing Machines, Mr. Sahil, Sales Officer, and Mr. Avtar Singh, Sales Officer. The experts conducted detailed live demonstrations of various advanced Singer machines. Students were introduced to the Singer 2605 Model (Electric Machine), featuring 88 built-in stitches suitable for both decorative and utility purposes, with easy operation for beginners and professionals alike.

The Singer 4423 Heavy Duty Zigzag Machine, equipped with a strong motor and high-speed stitching capability, was demonstrated for handling heavy fabrics such as denim and canvas. The session also included the Singer C5205 Sewing Machine, offering 80 built-in stitches and an automatic needle threader, ideal for fashion designing and creative stitching. A special highlight was the demonstration of the Singer Husqvarna Viking Topaz 50, an advanced computerized embroidery machine used for professional embroidery, design punching, and high-quality decorative finishes.

Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia commended the efforts of the department and emphasised that skill-based learning is essential in today’s competitive world. She noted that workshops of this nature provide hands-on experience and equip students with the latest technological advancements in fashion and garment construction.

Students from B.A. FDGC (II, III & VI Semesters), M.Sc. (II & IV Semesters), B.Voc (IV Semester), and B.Design (IV & VI Semesters) actively participated in the workshop. Dr. Beenu Kapoor, Head, Department of Home Science, along with Ms. Devika and Ms. Deepika, were also present during the event.
