BBK DAV COLLEGE FOR WOMEN ORGANISES A SPECIAL LECTURE DEDICATED TO THE 350TH MARTYRDOM ANNIVERSARY OF SRI GURU TEGH BAHADUR JI

BBK DAV College for Women, in collaboration with the Department of Higher Education and Languages and under the guidelines of Government of Punjab, organized a special lecture dedicated to the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji on the theme “Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji: The Universal Message of Martyrdom and Bhai Jaita Ji.” Professor (Dr.) Manjinder Singh, Head, School of Punjabi Research Studies, Guru Nanak Dev University, was  the keynote speaker for this event.

In her welcome address, Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia said that the main objective of this seminar was to acquaint students with the true essence of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji’s unparalleled martyrdom. She also shared insights about Gurudwara Matan Sahib and explained the historical background of the Kashmiri Pandits who approached Guru Tegh Bahadur ji seeking protection from persecution.

In his keynote address, Dr. Manjinder Singh expatiated upon the true meaning of religion and emphasised that Guru Tegh Bahadur ji’s sacrifice was not for any particular faith, but for the freedom of  humanity. Referring to Guru Arjan Dev Ji’s composition “Na Hum Hindu Na Musalman,” he highlighted that Sikh philosophy transcends sectarian boundaries and embodies pure spirituality. He urged everyone to imbibe Guru Sahib’s teachings in their lives.

While elaborating on the life and significance of Bhai Jaita ji in Sikh history, Dr. Singh stressed that Sikhism recognizes no distinction of caste or class, and he substantiated this idea with several important historical facts that deeply resonated with the students.

The event was attended by Mrs.Kamayani Anand, Dean Academics, Dr. Anita Narendra, Dean Community Initiatives Development, Dr. Seema Jaitley, Head, Department of Sociology, faculty of PG Department of Punjabi as well as a large number of students. The stage was conducted by Dr. Paramjit Kaur, Head, PG Department of Punjabi.
