BBK DAV College for Women successfully concluded its 15-day ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’ campaign with a Valedictory Function. The event highlighted the college’s commitment to cleanliness, sustainability, and civic responsibility through various initiatives led by its NSS Unit.
In her address, Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia emphasized that the true purpose of education lies in community service. She stated that education holds little value if it does not inspire individuals to make a positive difference in society. She urged students to be sensitive to the needs of others, to work towards alleviating suffering, and to contribute meaningfully to social upliftment. She added that these ideals are deeply rooted in the principles of Arya Samaj, which the institution continues to uphold through its various initiatives.
Chief Guest, Dr. Balbir Singh, NSS Coordinator, GNDU, highlighted the increasing importance of NSS in today’s rapidly advancing, AI-driven world, where human interaction is often diminished and people have grown increasingly indifferent and lethargic. The guest emphasized that NSS plays a vital role in teaching individuals how to live together harmoniously in a society, fostering empathy, teamwork, and civic engagement. Referring to the NSS song “Swayam Sajjay Sunderam,” the guest underlined its message of self-preparation and service, noting that such values help students develop confidence and a sense of purpose while uplifting others in the process.
NSS Volunteer, Vedita Kapoor, BBA Semester V, shared her experience of the 15-day campaign, while highlighting her participation in cleanliness drives, poster-making, and awareness activities, shared how the initiative strengthened her sense of civic responsibility.
A PowerPoint presentation followed, capturing highlights of the numerous activities organized by the NSS unit. From cleanliness and tree plantation drives to dental awareness and check-up camp, the slideshow documented the collective impact of student-led initiatives.
Certificates were also distributed to the students who participated in essay writing and poetry competition, poster-making, and active involvement in the cleanliness campaigns.
A thought-provoking Nukkad Natak on ‘Paryavaran Ka Bachav’ was also performed. The engaging performance creatively highlighted pressing environmental issues and succeeded in raising awareness about the urgent need to protect and preserve nature. The performance served as a reminder that environmental conservation is a shared responsibility that begins with individual action.
As part of the program’s socially conscious theme, all present took the National Voluntary Blood Donation Oath, reaffirming their commitment to public welfare and humanitarian values.
