BBK DAV College for Women hosted an enlightening session on motherhood and women’s health as part of the International Week of Breastfeeding, featuring the distinguished guest speaker, Dr. Indu Gupta, a veteran gynaecologist with over 24 years of experience in the government sector and active voluntary work.
The event was organized in collaboration with the Inner Wheel Club Amritsar Main, led by Mrs. Taranjit Kaur, President and Mrs. Roshni Batra, Secretary, with active support from members, Mrs. Gurinder Pal, Mrs. Ravneet, Mrs. Urmila Vaid, and Mrs. Bindu.
Dr. Gupta emphasized the critical role breastfeeding plays in ensuring the health and well-being of both mother and child. She highlighted that breastfeeding not only provides essential nutrients and antibodies to infants but also fosters a strong emotional bond between mother and baby. Dr. Gupta emphasized the importance of exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months, explaining how it plays a vital role in building a baby’s immunity and preventing infections and chronic illnesses. She encouraged the students to be aware of these health benefits, as this knowledge would help them make informed decisions as future mothers or health advocates in their families and communities.
Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia appreciated the efforts of the organizers and emphasized that sessions like these are essential for raising awareness on women’s health. She remarked that the college remains committed to empowering young women through education and community engagement.
Ms. Surbhi Sethi and Dr. Nidhi Aggarwal, NSS Programme Officers were also present on the event. Ms. Sumera Narang, member, NSS Committee, presented a vote of thanks for an enlightening session.
