Department of Hindi, BBK DAV College for Women, Amritsar, celebrated Hindi Diwas by organising a Webinar on the global perspective of Hindi language. Dr. Harmohinder Singh Bedi, Chancellor, Central University, Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh, was the Chief Guest and resource person for the same.
On this occasion, Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia, in her address to the participants, said that although English literature is her forte, yet Hindi literature has always fascinated her since her childhood. Dr. Walia dwelt upon the contribution of top-notch Hindi writers, such as, Munshi Prem Chand, Bhisham Sahni and Mohan Rakesh in the proliferation of Hindi language and literature.
Dr. Harmohinder Singh Bedi, while deliberating upon the importance of Hindi language, said that Hindi has helped India gain international recognition. He added that in the Eighth World Hindi Conference, the secretary of UNO remarked that Hindi language would one day attain the status of the international language. He further said that Hindi is being taught and studied in 250 countries of the world. Hindi language is like a highway that connects the whole nation.
Dr. Shelly Jaggi, Associate Professor in Hindi, recited her self-composed poem highlighting the importance of Hindi. Dr. Jaggi gave vote of thanks. Dr. Anita Narinder, Head, Department of Hindi, along with the other faculty members, were present on the occasion.
