BBK DAV College for Women, Amritsar recently won three GNDU Inter-College Championships, namely, Canoeing, Kayaking and Rowing, held at Hardosharan Dhar Kalan, Pathankot, from Feb 22 to Feb 23, 2022. The College team put up a splendid show and defeated GNDU Campus Amritsar, HMV College, Jalandhar and SDM college, Dinanagar. Ms. Vindhya Sankth won two gold medals in Rowing at two events, Single Scull and Double Scull. Jyoti Khushwaha won a gold medal in Double Scull, Kajal and Kanwar Ritika won one gold medal each in Coxless Pair and one silver medal in Coxless Four. Sharanpreet Kaur and Gagandeep won one silver medal each in Coxless Four. Komal Bisht won three gold medals and one silver medal in kayaking events in K1 500 mtr, K1 200 mtr, K2 500 mtr and K4 500mtr. Manpreet Kaur won one gold and one silver medal in kayaking event in K2 500 mtr and K4 500 mtr. Jobanpreet Kaur and Simrandeep Kaur won silver medal in K4 500 mtr. Kavita won two gold medals in canoeing events in C1 200 mts and C2 500 mts. Sumedha Singh won a gold medal in C2 500 mts.
It is a matter of great pride that three students have brought the college international recognition. Vindhya Sankth has participated in Rowing Asia/Oceania Continental Olympic and Paralympic, Anupama won a gold medal in Asian Canoe Sprint championship and Anusha Prasad won a silver medal in Open International Canoe Sprint Competition.
12 players of the college, Vindya Sankth, Jyoti Khushwaha, Anusha Prasad , Anupama A.S , Anajali Shivhare, Komal Bisht, Kavita, Sumedha Singh, Kajal, Kanwar Ritika, Sharanpreet Kaur and Gagandeep Kaur have been selected for All India Intervarsity Canoeing, Kayaking and Rowing Championships that is going to be held at Chandigarh.
Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia and Dr. P. S. Grover congratulated the young achievers and motivated them to maintain their performance in future as well. The Principal added that the college players have always made a mark in various championships and, as a result, BBK DAV has always remained a forerunner in sports.
Mrs. Sweety Bala, Head, Department of Physical Education, and Physical Education teachers, Dr. Amandeep Kaur, Ms. Savita Kumari and Mrs Gursharan Kaur and other faculty members felicitated the players on their achievements.
