NSS unit of BBK DAV College for Women organized a seminar on water conservation in context of the theme ‘Catch the Rain’. Hon’ble Dr. Raj Kumar Verka, former Cabinet Minister, Punjab was the chief guest for the event. Prof. Dr. Rajesh Kumar, NSS coordinator, GNDU was the resource person for the seminar.
While welcoming the guests, Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia said that BBK DAV is committed to the cause of environment awareness and health. College has adopted five villages under ‘Unnat Bharat Abhiyan’ and has been working relentlessly to impart knowledge of and facilitate sustainable modes of development amongst the villagers.
In his address, Dr. Rajesh Kumar spoke about the need and importance of water conservation in the times of climate change. He said that that we should train our younger generations about the various strategies of water conservation.
Dr. Raj Kumar Verka said that, to start with, we can save rainwater in our homes or buildings in an effective manner without spending too much money. By using this method, an average Indian family can easily harvest enough rainwater to meet its daily needs of water for washing, bathing, and other household chores.
A special documentary, prepared by the Department of Multimedia, featuring the water conservation initiatives of the college was also shown to the audience.
Sh. Sudarshan Kapoor, Chairman, LMC, thanked all the present dignitaries for sparing their precious time for this noble cause. He congratulated Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia, NSS, Programme Officers, Ms. Surbhi Sethi and Dr. Nidhi Aggarwal for organizing such an informative seminar.
