BBK DAV College for Women, Amritsar organised Awareness Programme on Cervical Cancer in collaboration with PHULKARI- a women organisation that works for the awareness and welfare among women. PHULKARI has associated with CAPED launch in Punjab.
The seminar began with the ceremony of lighting the lamp that is symbolic of evading darkness and spreading light of knowledge.
Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia welcomed Mrs. Praneet Babbar, the President of PHULKARI and also the team of CAPED. She said that the programme is organised with the motive to enlighten and bring awareness among young women about the dreaded diseases of Cervical Cancer. Mr. Sudarshan Kapoor, Chairman of the College, lauded the efforts being made for this awareness campaign.
Ms. Deepa Swani, Member, PHULKARI gave the introduction about the organisation. She enlightened the students about their social initiatives directed towards the welfare of women. Dr. Jasjit Chachi, a renowned gynecologist showered her pearls of wisdom. She expressed her happiness that CAPED has been brought to Amritsar. She told that Cervical Cancer is the second most common cancer among women and she talked about the ways to prevent this cancer. She told it can be prevented because it progresses slowly and secondly it can be detected through screening test. She further mentioned about the various tests which are done to diagnose HPV infection.
The presentation was given by CEO of CAPED Mrs. Mridu Gupta from New Delhi. In her presentation she told about their screening camps, Awareness workshops and theatre for a cause. Then she talked about the early symptoms of cancer and the importance of PAP smear test which is done every three years combined with HPV screening every five years. She concluded by telling about the preventive measures that should be taken to lower the risk of the Cervical Cancer. Dr. Nijjar, a Radiologist spoke about the difference between fibroids and cancer. He further appreciated the efforts taken by the college, PHULKARI and CAPED to spread awareness among young women.
The programme concluded with the vote of thanks presented by Mrs. Sandhya Sikka, Vice President of PHULKARI team.
