BBK DAV College for Women, Amritsar, introduced five new vocational degree courses, namely, M.Voc in Apparel/Fashion Technology, M.Voc in Retail Management, B.Voc in Healthcare/Health Care and Hospital Administration, B.Voc in Healthcare/Nutrition and Dietetics and B.Voc in Tourism and Hospitality Management in the academic session 2020-2021. UGC has accorded approval and sanction for introduction of these courses in the college under its scheme of NSQF; The college is already running seven B.Voc courses, namely B.Voc in Theatre and Stage craft, B.Voc in Entertainment Technology, B.Voc in Fashion Technology, B.Voc in Beauty and Fitness, B.Voc in Banking and Financial Services, B.Voc in Retail Management and B.Voc in Software Development. For this project, the college would receive a grant of approximately 1.6 crore.
Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia, while extending her gratitude to UGC, said that these courses have skill as well as employment enhancement potential. She further added that these courses would offer vast career opportunities to the students globally due to its rising demand around the world. Moreover, these courses equip the students with practical skills and promote entrepreneurship competencies among students. On this occasion, Sh. Sudarshan Kapoor, Chairman, LMC, Prof. Dr. Simerdeep, Dean Academics, Prof. Rajni Mehra, Bursar, Prof. Kamayani, Nodal officer, and co-ordinators of the respective courses were also present.
