BBK DAV College for Women, Amritsar celebrated Teej with great fanfare. It was presided over by Dr. Shweta Shenoy, Professor and Head, Department of Sports Medicine, and wife of worthy Vice Chancellor GNDU, Prof. Jaspal Singh Sandhu, as Chief Guest and Mrs. Balbir Kaur Bedi as Guest of Honour.
Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia extended floral welcome to the hon’ble guests. Speaking on the occasion, she highlighted the cultural significance of fairs and festivals in the life of a community. No society without having its roots deeply entrenched in its culture can survive for long, she said. She presented swing (Peeng) as a symbol of woman’s hopes, aspirations and dreams to cross all barriers obstructing her growth and advancement in life. She also expressed her deep concern over the growing menace of drugs in Punjab and released the book ‘Drug Abuse’ co-authored by Dr. Simardeep Kaur, Head, Department of Psychology, Assistant Professors Harleen Kaur and Priyanka Chohan.
In her address to the gathering, the chief guest, Dr. Shweta Shenoy dwelt on the cultural significance of Teej and defined it as an occasion for women to give a free reign to their heart’s innermost desires.
The Principal thanked the students and faculty, especially the Department of Travel & Tourism for making the celebrations a grand affair by presenting colourful dances, songs and kikli.
