NSS unit of BBK DAV College for Women, Amritsar, organized Swachhata Hi Seva campaign under the able guidance of Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia, from 15th September to 2nd October, 2023. During the fortnight of the campaign, events such as Swachhata Rally, Oath-taking Ceremony, Tree Plantation Drive and Cleanliness Drive were held, exemplifying the institution’s commitment to the Swachh Bharat Mission. Approximately 100 NSS volunteers and NSS team members participated in these events.
The Swachhata Rally was organized in collaboration with the Municipal Corporation, Amritsar, witnessing the participation of countless individuals and signifying the importance of ‘Garbage Free India’. The Oath-taking Ceremony served as a powerful reminder of our responsibility towards creating a cleaner, greener and sustainable future. The Tree Plantation Drive featured the implantation of various medicinal plants such as bay leaf, haldi, clove and camphor in the college campus. The Cleanliness Drive was run through the various departments as well as the college hostel, thus reiterating the commitment towards solid waste management. Additionally, a Poster-making Competition on the theme of ‘Clean India’ and a lecture on “Ban of Single Use Plastic and Sustainable Development Goals” were also held. The Kora Kagaz Club members also ensured their participation by recycling and distributing discarded notebooks to the underprivileged students.
In her address, Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia said that Swachh Bharat Mission marks a paradigm shift in transforming India’s sanitation landscape and motivated the NSS volunteers to proceed with the aim of the mission.
On this occasion, NSS Programme Officers Ms. Surbhi Sethi and Dr. Nidhi Aggarwal encouraged the volunteers to uphold the spirit of the Swachhata campaign.
