BBK DAV College for Women, Amritsar, organised 56th Annual Awards Day to honour young achievers in the field of academics, sports and co-curricular events. His Excellency Sh. Gulab Chand Kataria, Governor of Punjab, was the Chief Guest. In his address, Hon’ble Governor, applauded the commendable efforts of BBK DAV College in awarding 500 students across diverse categories. Drawing attention to the pressing issue of drug abuse in Punjab, Hon’ble Governor stressed that women can play a pivotal role in eradicating this menace.
Welcoming the guests, Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia expressed pride in the institution’s tradition of recognizing students who consistently excel in academics, as well as in sports and co-curricular arenas, thereby elevating the college’s status as a leading women’s institution in North India. With a clear and powerful message ‘Say no the first time, every time’ the institution empowers its students to resist peer pressure to make conscious and informed choices for a drug-free life. The Principal emphasized the fact that the college stands firmly with the Hon’ble Governor and the government in the crusade against drugs.
The Governor of Punjab was accompanied by a galaxy of senior officials, educationists and sportsmen, including Sh. V.P. Singh, IAS, Principal Secretary to Governor, Prof. Dr. Karamjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor, GNDU, S. Shiv Dular Singh Dhillon, IAS(retd.), Secretary-cum-Chief Executive of State Red Cross Society, Brigadier Harcharan Singh, VSM, Arjuna Awardee, and Olympian, who graced the occasion. Among the distinguished guests were S. Gursimran Singh Dhillon, PCS, SDM-I, Amritsar and Dr. Amandeep Singh, Head, Department of Physical Education and Director, Department of Youth Welfare, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar.
Applauding the efforts of the Hon’ble Governor and the state administration, BBK DAV students gave a thought-provoking theatrical presentation against drugs ‘Ek Yudh Nashe Virudh’. An exhibition was also organized showcasing the vibrant artistic creations of the Departments of Fashion, Design, Interiors, Gemology, Home Science, Applied Art and Fine Arts.
Advocate Sudarshan Kapoor, Chairman, Local Committee, Sh. Vipin Bhasin, Member, Local Committee, along with eminent members of Arya Samaj, namely, Sh. Rakesh Mehra, Col. Ved Mitter, Sh. Inderjit Thukral, Sh. Sandeep Ahuja, Sh. Gaurav Talwar, Sh. Atul Mehra and Dr. Manchanda were also present during the event.
