BBK DAV College for Women organized DBT Sponsored Guest Lectures on the topics “Science As a Way of Thinking” and “Quantum Cryptography” by Department of Physics. The resource person for the lectures was Dr. Arvind Dhillon, Professor, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Mohali. In the first lecture, the Speaker emphasized the importance of Science in understanding the world around us. He mentioned the various discoveries made by renowned physicists from time to time. He emphasized the need for linking Science with Society and to combine the historical, economical and sociological perspectives in order to give a new direction to Science.
Further, he gave an informative overview of the topic “Quantum Cryptography”. Quantum cryptography is the science of exploiting quantum mechanical properties to perform cryptographic tasks. The students were made aware about its application for making the data more secure. Beginning from the basic principle of Quantum Cryptography, he explained its working principle including the various coding and decoding processes with the help of supportive examples. Numerous cases of societal benefits emerging from the Quantum Cryptography technology were briefed by the resource person. It was explained that Quantum Cryptography will continue to be an essential driver for opening new domains in Science and Technology.
Following the speech, there was an interactive session, where the students and teachers interacted with the Speaker clarifying their doubts and asking interesting questions. The successful programme ended in the afternoon with vote of thanks by Dr. Shaweta Mohan, Head of Department, Physics. Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia congratulated Dr. Shaweta Mohan and other faculty members, Mrs. Vandana Rawat, Mrs. Tanvi Mahajan, Ms. Surbhi and Mr. Japinder Singh for organizing such guest lectures.
