To acquaint students with sustainable techniques of design and craft, Department of Design, BBK DAV College for Women organized a webinar on “Sustainability, Craft and Technology”. Prof. Raghuraman Iyer, Master of Design in Product Designing from IIT Mumbai and Head, Punyaa Education and Research Foundation was the resource person for the webinar. During his lecture Prof. Iyer told students that fashion industry is one of the most polluting industries globally, so need is to move towards sustainable practices in designing and crafting of the products. He added that sustainable and sensible crafting will lead to less textile waste, less harm to animals, fairer wages and working conditions and a better tomorrow for the future generations. Prof. Iyer’s lecture was followed by an interesting question/answer session. Students asked multiple queries regarding various sustainable practices which they can adopt in their day to day lives for making fashion long lasting and sustainable. Faculty of the Department of Design along with a batch of 50 students attended this webinar.
Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia applauded the efforts of Department of Design for organizing such an informative webinar. She said that women are the most conscious people when it comes to crafting and designing. So being a women’s college it becomes our responsibility to motivate our students toward the adoption of sustainable fashion and craft practices in their daily routines.
