NSS Unit of BBK DAV College for Women, Amritsar, organised a valedictory function to mark the finale of its 15-day Swachhata Hi Seva campaign 2024, held from 17th September to 2nd October, under the theme ‘Swabhav Swachhata, Sanskaar Swachhata‘. Chief Guest Dr. P.S. Grover, Director, Medic Aid Hospital, Amritsar, and Guest of Honour Dr. Ranjit Arora, a renowned educationist from the United Kingdom, graced the occasion.
Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia congratulated the NSS unit on organising the campaign. In her address to the volunteers, she emphasized the dire need to inculcate a sense of civic responsibility towards cleanliness, highlighting its importance in making India cleaner, greener, and more sustainable. She further encouraged the students to not only avoid littering themselves but also to ensure others do the same, making cleanliness a daily habit.
Dr. P.S. Grover, while speaking on the occasion, stressed the significance of maintaining cleanliness not just of the body, but also of the mind and the environment. Dr. Ranjit Arora reinforced the message of cleanliness by motivating the students to embrace the motto ‘cleanliness is next to godliness’ in their daily lives. Sh. Sudarshan Kapoor, Chairman, Local Committee, commended the dedication and hard work of the NSS Unit for their tremendous efforts in promoting cleanliness.
During the Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign, several activities were carried out to promote cleanliness, environmental awareness, and sustainable practices. These included a campus-wide cleanliness drive across departments, the library, and the hostel, lectures by Ms. Surbhi Sethi on cleanliness and eliminating single-use plastics, and Dr. Nidhi Aggarwal on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), competitions like poster-making, poetry-recitation, and essay writing, as well as a Nukkad Natak “Prakriti Ki Pukar – Paryavaran Ka Bachao”, to spread the message of environmental conservation.
Winners of various competitions, along with members of Kora Kagaz Club and NSS Unit, were awarded during the valedictory function. Sapna Mishra of B.Com Sem V won the most hardworking NSS volunteer award. On this occasion, Dr. Anita Narendra, Dean, Community Development Initiatives, Mrs. Surbhi Sethi & Dr. Nidhi Aggarwal, NSS Programme officers, staff members and NSS volunteers were also present.
