BBK DAV College for Women, Amritsar, celebrated Hindi Diwas and commemorated the Birth Anniversary of Swami Virjanand ji, the revered teacher of Swami Dayanand Saraswati ji, by organising a talk on the relevance and importance of Hindi. The talk was delivered by Padma Shri awardee Dr. Harmohinder Singh Bedi, Chancellor, Central University of Himachal Pradesh.
While speaking on the occasion, Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia said that Hindi is deeply rooted in the cultural and historical fabric of India, with a rich literary tradition that spans over centuries. Being the national language, Hindi has played a crucial role in shaping India’s identity, cultural expression, and literary heritage.
Padma Shri Dr. Harmohinder Singh Bedi ,in his address, said that Swami Virjanand ji played a significant role in promoting Hindi language as a part of his commitment to revive Vedic values , thus leading to the reformation of Indian society in multiple ways . He further added how Swami ji used Hindi extensively in his religious sermons and teachings with the objective to influence people and their lives. He concluded his speech by citing his magnum opus Satyarth Prakash (The Light of Truth), highlighting its profound impact on shaping Hindi as a vehicle for reformist thought and social change.
Sh. Sudarshan Kapoor, Chairman, Local Advisory Committee, motivated the students to read Hindi literature as it will foster a deeper understanding of India’s cultural heritage, value system and history.
Dr. Anita Narendra, Head, Department of Hindi, conducted the stage. Students of Hindi Department along with faculty members from the college attended the event. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Sh. Sudarshan Kapoor, Chairman, Local Advisory Committee, and the winners of National Library Day being awarded appreciation certificates.
