BBK DAV College for Women, Amritsar, organised a Zero Plastic, Skill and Entrepreneurship Fest in collaboration with National EduTrust of India registered under Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India, to encourage students with entrepreneurial skills. The event was dedicated to Mahatma Anand Swami ji, a strong pillar of Arya Samaj and the DAV movement in the nation.
Mr. Inderjeet Sandhu, Creative Director and CEO, Essex Cultural Diversity Project, Essex, UK graced the occasion as the Special Guest of Honour. He appreciated the college’s commitment towards fostering eco-friendly innovation and women’s empowerment through skill-based initiatives, and also commended the students for their creativity.
During the skill fair, 64 stalls were set up to foster creativity and entrepreneurship among students. In the fair, more than 200 students exhibited their talent through textile designing techniques such as tie and dye, block and screen printing, upholstery and utility items, jute bags, murals, heena art, nail art, apparel accessories, scarves, stoles, wall hangings, dupatta, paper lanterns, mirrors, candles, diyas, tote bags, jewellery, table clothes etc. Students also displayed stalls of various food delicacies like, Bhel Puri, Nutri Kulcha, Sandwiches, Golgappas, Cakes, Chocolates, Mojito and Pasta etc.
A Charity Corner was organised as part of the Zero Plastic Skill and Entrepreneurship initiative. The initiative aimed to promote the values of community welfare, compassion, and sustainability during the festive season of Diwali. Faculty members and students actively participated by contributing sweets, clothing, crockery, and other useful items. The collected items were thoughtfully distributed as Diwali gifts to underprivileged families and support staff by Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia.
While appreciating the efforts of Mr. Samarth Sharma, CEO, National EduTrust of India, Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia said that such initiatives play a vital role in nurturing and displaying the entrepreneurial potential of students. She further added that BBK DAV College for Women has consistently encouraged experiential learning and upheld the principle of self-sufficiency as a key pathway to women’s empowerment.
On this occasion, Sh. Sudarshan Kapoor, Chairman, Local Advisory Committee, Mr. Vipin Bhasin, Member, Local Advisory Committee, Sh. Rakesh Mehra, Sh. Sandeep Ahuja, Members of Arya Samaj, staff members and students were also present.
