BBK DAV College for Women organised awareness programmes on Prevention of Sexual Harassment under the aegis of Sexual Harassment Prevention Week, with the objective of sensitising students and staff about their rights, responsibilities, and legal safeguards.
During the programme, various provisions of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 were discussed in detail. The sessions focused on promoting a safe, respectful, and inclusive work and learning environment for women.
Addressing the students, Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia highlighted the importance of awareness and education in preventing workplace harassment. She stated that the Act not only provides legal protection to women but also upholds dignity, equality, and justice in the workplace. She emphasised the need for institutions to foster an environment of mutual respect and maintain zero tolerance towards any form of harassment. Principal Dr. Walia encouraged students and staff to remain informed about redressal mechanisms and to raise concerns without fear.
As part of the programme, a lecture on sensitisation and awareness regarding the Act was also organised. Special emphasis was laid on disseminating information about the Women Helpline (181) and the One Stop Centre (OSC), which offer immediate support to women in distress.
Another informative session was conducted by the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) of the college. The lecture was led by the Presiding Officer, Dr. Sapna Gupta, along with ICC members Ms. Mandeep Kaur, Ms. Surbhi, and Dr. Nidhi Aggarwal. They explained the role and functioning of the ICC and guided the participants on the procedure for filing complaints.
