BBK DAV College for Women, Amritsar, organised a sensitization lecture on “Cervical Cancer Awareness” in collaboration with Amandeep Group of Hospitals, with special emphasis on early diagnosis and preventive care of cervical cancer. Dr. Shivani Garg, Senior Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, Amandeep Medicity, and Ujala Cygnus Healthcare Services, was the resource person.
Dr. Garg shared valuable insights on cervical cancer, including its causes, symptoms, prevention, and treatment options. She emphasised the importance of regular screening, HPV vaccination, and timely medical consultation, highlighting that cervical cancer is among the most preventable and treatable cancers when detected at an early stage.
Dr. Garg also addressed common myths related to gynaecological health and encouraged the adoption of a proactive approach towards reproductive well-being. The lecture was followed by an engaging interactive session, which witnessed active participation from the college staff, who raised queries on menstrual health, PCOD, fertility concerns, and cancer screening.
Addressing the gathering, Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia accentuated the significance of health awareness among women. She stated that educational institutions play a crucial role in shaping not only the academic development but also the physical and emotional well-being of students. She further added that such awareness programmes empower women with accurate knowledge, enabling them to make informed health decisions and lead healthier lives.
Dr. Anita Narinder and Ms. Surbhi Sethi, convenors of the programme, along with around 100 staff members, enthusiastically attended the lecture.
