BBK DAV College for Women observes International Yoga Day

BBK DAV College for Women, Amritsar, observed International Yoga Day on 21st June 2025, with the theme “Yoga for One Earth, One Health”. The event was organised under the aegis of the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, and was part of the nationwide initiative reflected through the Yoga Sangam Patra platform. The event was organised under the able guidance of Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia, with enthusiastic participation from the students of Department of Physical Education, and NSS unit of the college, along with NCC cadets from 9 Punjab Battalion, Amritsar.

The day commenced with an invigorating and instructive yoga session conducted by eminent members of Bhartiya Yog Sansthan, namely Mr. Rajesh Bhatia, Mrs. Sushma Bhatia and Mrs. Rachna. Addressing the participants, Mr. Rajesh Bhatia highlighted the numerous benefits of yoga, emphasizing how regular practice fosters inner peace, vitality, and a deeper connection with nature. Mrs. Sushma Bhatia underlined the importance of yoga asanas in enhancing cardiovascular health, improving posture and balance, and increasing body awareness. Mrs. Rachna described yoga as a holistic approach to stress management that significantly contributes to overall well-being and quality of life.

As part of the event, the participants also watched the live streaming of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s address, in which he spoke about yoga’s growing global relevance and its role in promoting individual and planetary health.

Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia remarked that yoga, a valuable part of the heritage of India, is a way of life that promotes mental, spiritual, and physical well-being. She appreciated the initiative of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in highlighting yoga’s global relevance and commended the college faculty for their efforts in organizing the event.

Sh. Sudarshan Kapoor, Chairman, Local Advisory Committee, encouraged students to incorporate yoga into their daily routine to maintain good health and overall well-being. He emphasized that regular practice of yoga is essential for a balanced and healthy lifestyle.

Ms. Kiran Gupta, Head, Department of Computer Science, Dr. Anita Narinder, Dean Community Development Initiatives Ms. Surbhi Sethi and Dr. Nidhi Aggarwal, NSS Programme Officers, Dr. Sweety Bala and Dr. Amandeep Kaur, Department of Physical Education, Dr. Palwinder Singh, Dr. Sahil Gupta and along with other faculty members also participated in the event.
