BBK DAV College for Women, Amritsar, celebrated National Voters’ Day on 25th January 2026 in collaboration with the District Election Office, Amritsar, as per the guidelines and programme schedule issued by the District Administration. The event was organised with the objective of promoting electoral awareness and encouraging youth participation in the democratic process. Sh. Dalwinderjit Singh, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Amritsar, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. On the arrival of the Chief Guest, the ceremony formally began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp.
A short SVEEP film along with the message of the Hon’ble Chief Election Commissioner of India was screened to sensitise students about their electoral rights and responsibilities. Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner emphasised the importance of inclusive participation in democracy and highlighted the crucial role of young voters in shaping the future of the nation and encouraged students to become informed, responsible voters and to actively engage in the democratic process. As part of the programme, two students of the college, Jasmine (BA sem VI) and Samridhi (BBA sem VI) delivered insightful speeches on voter awareness on the theme “My Bharat, My Vote”, highlighting the power of a single vote and the responsibility of citizens in strengthening democratic values.
During the event, the Deputy Commissioner honoured Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia for the college’s consistent efforts in promoting voter awareness and civic responsibility among students. Dr. Sapna Gupta, Nodal Officer, SVEEP, was also honoured for her significant contribution towards strengthening voter education initiatives. Several officers from the district administration were also felicitated for their dedicated contribution to the successful conduct of electoral processes.
Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia, in her address, highlighted the institution’s commitment to democratic values and civic engagement. She stated that educational institutions play a pivotal role in nurturing socially aware citizens and empowering young voters with knowledge, awareness and a sense of responsibility.
This was followed by the administration of the National Voters’ Day Pledge by the Chief Guest, wherein all participants pledged to uphold democratic values and exercise their right to vote ethically and fearlessly. A thought-provoking Nukkad Natak titled “Matdaan–Ek Jung” was presented by BBK students during the programme, highlighting the importance of voting and active civic participation. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks followed by the National Anthem.

Rajesh Kumar Gupta, DEO, along with other officials from the district administration, as well as Dr. Sapna Gupta, BBK Nodal Officer, SVEEP, Dr. Sweety Bala, Additional SVEEP Nodal Officer, and members of the college faculty, along with students, were present on the occasion.
