BBK DAV College for Women celebrates 15th National Voters’ Day in collaboration with District Administration, Amritsar

BBK DAV College for Women, Amritsar, celebrated 15th National Voters’ Day in collaboration with District Election Office, Amritsar, to encourage young voters to take part in the electoral process. Ms. Jyoti Bala, PCS, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Amritsar, was the chief guest for the event. During the programme, an intercollege debate competition was organised in which Ms. Jasmine Kaur, BA- Semester 4 and Ms. Adhya, BD- Semester 2, won the first prize. Various other competitions such as, Painting, Poster Making and Quiz were also organized under the SVEEP campaign to raise awareness among the youth about the importance of voting during elections.

While welcoming the guests, Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia said that BBK DAV College is fully committed towards the service of the nation, and therefore the college proudly collaborates with the district administration every year to celebrate National Voters’ Day. She further added that it is our fundamental duty to cast our vote and we all should practice this duty impartially.

ADC Ms. Jyoti Bala honoured Principal Dr. Walia for enrolling new voters by organizing Voters Registration Camp in the college campus. Along with the Principal, various officers from the district administration were also honoured for their active involvement in the election process.

While speaking on the occasion, ADC Ms. Jyoti Bala said that for political systems to be effective, all sections of the society must be included. She further remarked that in order to make a difference in the long run, it is essential that young people actively participate in the formal political process and have a say in democracy.

To celebrate the occasion, the college students presented a play ‘Matdaan ka Mahatva’, depicting the importance of voting and electing the right candidates. They also sang a song on the power of voting in democracy. Artists from Sardar Bhagat Singh Virasat Manch also presented a nukkad natak.  The event culminated with a pledge taken by all the participants to cast their vote honestly.

Harbhagwant Singh, D.E.O. (Secondary), S. Inderjeet Singh, Election Tehsildar, S. Rajinder Singh and Sh. Parkirat Singh, Election Kanungos, Sh. Yogesh, APRO, along with other members of the district administration as well as Ms. Sapna Gupta, Nodal Officer, SVEEP, and Mr. Ankur Sharma, Additional SVEEP Nodal Officer and the college faculty, were present on the occasion.
