BBK DAV College for women organized a 7 Days Faculty Development Programme on the theme “The Road Ahead – Opportunities Challenges and Perspectives in Higher Education”. The programme aims at augmenting the knowledge and enhancing the skills of academicians, educational experts, administrators, teachers and policy makers. The programme began with the lighting of lamp of knowledge and singing of DAV gaan. The Chief Guest of the programmme was Dr. TS Benipal, Dean, CDC, GNDU, Amritsar. The Guests of Honour on the occasion were Dr PS Grover, Chest specialist and owner of Grover Hospital, Amritsar and Principal of Hindu College Dr. PK Sharma. Prof. Dr. Gurvinder Singh, Department of Computer Science, GNDU, Amritsar was the Keynote speaker.
Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia in her welcome address extended a very warm welcome to the dignitaries and enlightened the forum with the importance of Faculty Development Programme and further said that this programme will give an opportunity to the participants to upgrade their realm of knowledge as well as to interact with the like-minded people. Earlier Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia gave a hearty welcome to the eminent persons by presenting saplings- symbol of cleaner and greener environment.
After that, Dr. Simerdeep, Dean, Academics of the college and Head of Department of Psychology acquainted the participants with the vision and mission of this 7 DAY FDP. She highlighted in order to reach the dream of Universal Higher Education there is need to follow current trends in Science and technology.
In his Inaugural Address, Dr. T.S. Benipal congratulated the college for organizing such a great venture. Sharing his rich experience of teaching and learning with the participants he said that we always remain learners and learn a lot of new things from our environment every day. He also said that the unique component of such programmes is to stimulate the creative ideas of the faculty and the resource persons. He further elaborated on the challenges before higher education and suggested the methods to deal with the challenges.
In the Keynote Address, Prof. Dr. Gurvinder Singh presented the presentation on “Machine learning for Internet of Things” in which he shared his views about the role of internet in transforming our current society. He told about the nuances of machine learning and conversion of homes into smart homes, cities into smart cities, cars into smart cars, agriculture into smart agriculture so on and so forth. He further said that Roads ahead are glorious provided humans strike a balance between machines and humanity.
The inaugural session concluded with the presentation of vote of thanks by Shri Sudarshan Kapoor, Chairman, LMC. He said that man should remain the master and machine should always serve the man. He also congratulated conveners of the programme—Mr. Anurag Gupta and Mrs. Jaspreet Bedi from the department of Computer Science and the entire organizing committee for organizing this programme.
The inaugural session was followed by two technical sessions. The resource person for technical session-II was Prof. Dr Gurvinder Singh, Dept. of Computer Science, GNDU, Amritsar and the technical session-III had Dr. Rajesh Sharma, Dept. of Music, GNDU, Amritsar, as the resource person.
