In collaboration with District Administration, Amritsar, BBK DAV College for Women organised a bunch of educative activities to mark National Voter Day. S. Kamaljeet Singh Sangha, Deputy Commissioner Cum District Election Officer graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia welcomed the Chief Guest and his team of officials, Mrs. Alka (PCS), Nodal Officer, Sh. Sher Jung Bahadur Singh, D.P.R.O, Sh. Tajinder Pal Singh (PCS) CA. Puda, S. Narinderjit Singh Pannu, DSSP and Sh. Himanshu Aggarwal (IAS) ADC (General) Cum Addl Distt. Election Officer.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest pinpointed the crucial importance of vote in a democracy. He explained that the right to vote is both a right and responsibility of the citizen. Talking about the upcoming General Elections, he added that to make our democracy more vibrant and progressive, this time the focus was on transgender and disabled voters of all categories.
In her welcome address to the gathering, Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia exhorted the young voters to exercise their franchise intelligently and enthusiastically. She elucidated it further by adding that in a democracy, people always get the kind of government that they deserve.
Two skits namely ‘Kursi’ by Theatre Deptt of the college and ‘Vote Boldi Hai’ by Azad Bhagat Singh Virasat Manch stole the limelight of the day. More than 1000 students benefitted from the interactions.
Winners of various competitions held as a part of National Voter Day Celebration were awarded prizes. The competitions were organised in Slogan Writing, Essay Writing, Declamation and Painting.
Before concluding the celebrations, the District Administration honoured Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia, S. Tejinder Pal Singh Sandhu, Prof. Renu Bhandari & Prof. Monika for their commendable contribution towards the function.
