As part of the UGC’s nationwide initiative to combat ragging in educational institutions, BBK DAV College for Women, Amritsar, actively participated in Anti-Ragging Week, held from 12th to 18th August, 2025. The week featured a series of activities aimed to raise awareness against ragging and its consequences as well as possible preventive measures, fostering a culture of respect and empathy in the college campus.
The week commenced with the observance of Anti-Ragging Day on 12th August, 2025. On this day, an inaugural seminar was organised to enlighten the students about the detrimental impact of ragging and to foster a sense of harmony and inclusivity within the academic community. Student Council members and NSS volunteers of the college participated in a solemn oath-taking ceremony wherein they pledged not to indulge in any form of ragging activity within the college. These events set the tone for the week, emphasizing the importance of individual responsibility in maintaining a ragging-free campus.
On 13th August, 2025, the students from B. Design Multimedia and B.Voc Entertainment Technology gathered in the BD Seminar Hall for a special screening of an anti-ragging documentary film prepared by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The documentary effectively emphasized the serious consequences of ragging and detailed the legal actions that may be taken against those involved, garnering a positive reception from the students. Following the screening, a discussion was held on the topic, where students shared their thoughts and ideas on how to further strengthen the anti-ragging measures within the college. The session proved to be highly interactive and educational, reinforcing the message of zero tolerance towards ragging.
On 14th August, 2025, an On-the-spot Essay Writing Competition was held, allowing students to express their views and understanding of the anti-ragging theme. The competition was judged by Dr. Anita, Mrs. Jijina, and Dr. Paramjit Kaur, who evaluated the essays based on content, originality, and clarity of expression. Simranpreet Kaur, B.A. Semester-5, secured the first position, while Megha Dhawan, B.Sc (Computer Science) Semester-3, and Sneha Verma, B.A. Semester-3, stood second, and Anupreet Kaur, B.Sc (Computer Science) Semester-3, along with Gurnoor Kaur, B.A. Semester-5, bagged the third position in the competition.
The week culminated with a Poster and Slogan Writing Competition conducted on 18th August, 2025, in which a total of 31 students exhibited their artistic skills and creativity. In the +1 and +2 division, Khushi, Joinea, and Siya secured the first, second, and third positions respectively. At the graduation level, Shivani Rana secured the first position, while the second position was jointly held by Parul and Deepti. Anisha and Sanchi jointly secured the third position. In the Digital Painting event for graduation students, Jashanpreet Kaur and Kiran secured the first and second positions respectively, while Mehak and Vanshika shared the third position. The event was adjudged by Dr. Aditi, who assessed the entries on the basis of visual impact, relevance to the theme, and the effectiveness of the message conveyed. The vibrant posters and thought-provoking slogans created by the students were a testament to their commitment to the anti-ragging cause.
Overall, the celebration of Anti-Ragging Week was successful in engaging students and reinforcing the message of a ragging-free campus. Through these initiatives, the college continues to strive towards creating a safe and supportive environment for every student.
