BBK DAV College for Women organised a session on Achieving Problem-Solution Fit & Product-Market Fit was organised under the “Entrepreneurship and Startup” theme on 20th February 2025 in the laboratories of Post-Graduate Department of Computer Science and Applications. The resource person for the session was Ms. Ramyeta Mehra, Graphic Designer Executive, AOSC Technologies, Amritsar.
The event aimed to equip participants with the knowledge required to align their innovative ideas with market needs by integrating market research at the early stage of startup planning. Experts from the fields of entrepreneurship, product development, and market research conducted interactive sessions, covering topics such as customer segmentation, validation techniques, and product-market fit strategies. The session included hands-on activities, case studies, and discussions that enabled students to understand the commercialization process of innovative products. The workshop was conducted in offline mode with the participation of approximately 90 students and 20 faculty members on 20.02.2025 in the Laboratories of Post Graduate Department of Computer Science and Applications of the College.
The speaker covered a comprehensive range of topics focused on understanding and achieving Problem-Solution Fit (PSF) and Product-Market Fit (PMF), emphasizing their critical importance for startups and businesses. The session began with an introduction to PSF and PMF, explaining what each concept entails, the differences between them, and why both are essential for success.
The speaker then delved into identifying and understanding the problem, highlighting how to define a real problem worth solving, methods for customer discovery, and tools for problem validation, such as surveys, interviews, and customer feedback. The discussion transitioned to moving from PSF to PMF, exploring how to measure market demand for a product, key indicators of PMF like customer retention and organic growth, and the iterative process of refining a product.
The session also included practical exercises and case studies, where participants engaged in hands-on activities like creating problem statements and customer personas, participated in group discussions on real-world examples, and interacted through a Q&A segment. Overall, the talk provided a holistic understanding of the journey from identifying a problem to achieving market fit, equipping participants with actionable insights and tools.
Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia lauded the initiative of Institute’s Innovation Council. She added that such sessions should be organised from time to time to keep the students updated with the latest developments in the technology.
Overall, the session was well-received, with positive feedback from attendees highlighting its role in enhancing entrepreneurial skills and problem-solving abilities.
