BBK DAV College for Women, Amritsar, celebrated 14th National Voters’ Day in collaboration with District Election Office, Amritsar, to encourage young voters to take part in the electoral process. Mr. Ghansham Thori (IAS), Deputy Commissioner, Amritsar, was the chief guest for the event. Various competitions, such as, Painting, Poster Making and Elocution were organized to raise awareness among the youth about the importance of voting during elections.
While welcoming the guests, Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia said that BBK DAV understands its duty towards the nation and therefore, the college proudly collaborates with the district administration every year to celebrate National Voters’ Day. She said that voting is a right as well as a responsibility, and every citizen should perform this duty honestly and fearlessly.
Sh. Ghansham Thori (IAS), honored Principal Dr. Walia for enrolling more than 160 new voters by organizing Voters Registration Camp in the college campus. Along with the Principal, various officers from the district administration were also honoured for their active involvement in the election process.
Speaking on the occasion, Sh. Ghansham Thori (IAS) said that for political systems to be effective, all sections of the society must be included. To make a difference in the long run, it is essential that young people actively participate in the formal political process and have a say in democracy. He felicitated the college for hosting and organizing the event.
Sh. Sudarshan Kapoor, Chairman, Local Advisory Committee, encouraged young voters to take up the responsibility of casting their vote.
Department of Theatre of BBK DAV College for Women presented a play ‘Hamari Vote Hamara Adhikar’. Artists from Azad Bhagat Singh Virasat Manch staged an impressive play depicting the role of voting while electing the right candidates to power. Jasmine Kaur from B.A. Sem II gave a speech on the topic ‘Importance of Election and Voting Rights’. Towards the end of the event, a pledge was taken by all present, to cast their vote honestly and fairly.
Mr. Harpreet Singh (IAS), ADC, General, Ms. Amandeep Kaur (PCS), ADC, Urban Development, Sh. Rajesh Kumar, District Education Officer (Elementary), Principal Pallavi Sethi, DAV Public School, Amritsar, along with other members of the district administration as well as the college faculty were present on the occasion.
