NSS Unit of BBK DAV College for Women, Amritsar, organised a series of community service programmes throughout a week-long NSS Camp. These programmes aimed at promoting social responsibility, fostering community development, and addressing environmental concerns. Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia said that these programmes underscore the unwavering commitment of the college towards community service. She added that the college would continue to take the initiatives spanning environmental awareness, educational support, and social engagement, contributing to a sustainable impact on the communities involved.
The Unit engaged in various community service activities in the adopted villages of Meerakot Kalan and Meerakot Khurd. Dr. Sushil Kumar from the Department of Computer Science delivered a lecture titled “Cyber Crime.” Additionally, a green initiative was implemented through plantation of saplings at the local Gurdwara, and distribution of jute bags to villagers.
In the adopted villages of Malawali and Tabowali, NSS Programme Officer Mrs. Surbhi Sethi gave a talk titled “Harmful Consequences of Using Chinese String in Kite Flying.” NSS Programme Officer Dr. Nidhi Aggarwal delivered a lecture on “Water Conservation within the Framework of SDG6.” Ms. Sonali and Ms. Devika from the Department of Home Science conducted a workshop “Block Printing on Fabric”. Besides, the NSS volunteers donated jute bags to villagers, and notebooks made by the Kora Kagaz Club of the college to the underprivileged students.
NSS volunteers also visited Guru Ram Das Old Age Home and interacted with the senior citizens. Besides, they donated hot gel pads, warm clothes, snacks and biscuits, Milton kettles and fruit to them. The volunteers entertained the elderly inmates by dancing, playing guitar, asking riddles, reciting poems, and singing songs.
A community outreach programme was organised in a slum area adjacent to the Durgiana Temple, in which blankets, snacks, and sweets were distributed to the economically disadvantaged residents of the slum area. National Youth Day was also celebrated to inspire the potential of the youth, instilling a sense of responsibility towards community.
