Department of Physics of BBK DAV College for Women, Amritsar organised DBT-sponsored guest lectures on the topic “Landmark Discoveries in Physics” and “Indian Space, Nuclear and Defence Programmes” on 3rd Aug 2019. The resource person for these lectures was Prof. (Dr.) Atul Khanna, Department of Physics, GNDU. Students of B.Sc (Non-Medical) and B.Sc (Computer Science) attended the lectures.
Dr. Atul Khanna in his lectures gave an insight on the origin of Indian space programmes and various successful missions such as Aryabhatta, PSLV, GSLV, GSAT-19, GSAT-11, Mangalyan and Chandrayan-I etc. During his talk, Dr. Atul Khanna also discussed about the recent launch of Chandrayan-II on 22nd July 2019. He also enlightened that ISRO is presently working on the upcoming project- Gaganyan, wherein an astronaut would be sent into earth’s orbit. He also gave an insight on the working of Nuclear Reactors and various nuclear power stations across India. He imparted knowledge about various scientific research institutes where the students can pursue their Ph.D. and research programmes.
Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia presented a memento to the resource person. She congratulated Dr. Shweta Mohan, Head, Department of Physics along with faculty members Ms. Priyanka Mehra, Ms. Vandana, Mrs. Priyanka Kaushal and Mrs. Tanvi Mahajan of the department for organising these DBT sponsored guest lectures.
