BBK DAV COLLEGE FOR WOMEN ORGANISES CYBER AWARENESS PROGRAMME

BBK DAV College for Women organised a Cyber Awareness Programme to sensitise students about the growing challenges of cybercrime. The session was conducted by Ms. Manjinder Kaur, Head Constable, accompanied by two constables, who presented an informative PowerPoint lecture explaining cybercrime as any illegal activity involving computers or networks, including unauthorized access, data theft and digital fraud.

During the session, the resource person highlighted the evolution of cyber threats from basic hacking to modern phishing, ransomware and AI-driven attacks, while cautioning students about emerging risks like deepfakes and IoT breaches. She explained various forms of cybercrime including identity theft, financial frauds and social media-related crimes, and informed students about the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal and the 24/7 helpline 1930 for immediate reporting of fraud. Key cyber safety practices and the CEIR portal for blocking lost or stolen mobile phones were also discussed.

Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia appreciated the initiative of the PG Department of Computer Science and Applications and stated that cyber awareness has become essential in the present digital era. She emphasised that educational institutions have a responsibility to equip students with the knowledge and confidence required to protect themselves online.

Teachers present on the occasion included Dr. Anita Narinder, Dr. Sushil Kumar and Dr. Palwinder Singh.
